An Introduction
Harry and Amanda Briggs are two people who have had the luxury of seeing a good part of this world. Harry grew up on the North Island of New Zealand while Amanda grew up in England, Australia and then the States. They met in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1982, and married in 1986. They added to their family with the birth of their daughter, Ashley, in 1987 and then the birth of their twin daughters, Alexandra and Adrianna, in 1989. Harry first worked as an independent contractor to friendly governments and then later, worked in the construction industry as a general contractor, while Amanda worked in the hospitality industry. The girls grew up and went away to college. Around that time, Harry received a phone call from a friend, John Faraday, who was developing 1,000 acres on one of the Family Islands in the Bahamas. Harry and Amanda moved to the beautiful island of Rum Cay, where Harry took the position of Project Manager for Montana Holdings, LTD. The project was a high end development including the largest marina in the Bahamas, a resort hotel and second homes. Harry also set up a supply and distribution system for fuel for Sumner Point Marina on Rum Cay and several other Family Islands.
When Harry and Amanda learned of the tragic earthquake in Haiti, they knew that they had to do something to help. They began reaching out to different organizations and were able to put together a cargo full of humanitarian relief supplies that they transported to Haiti via the ex USCG cutter Hornbeam, also known as the M/V Rum Cay Grace. After a six day trip from Miami to Haiti, they arrived Easter Weekend, 2010. It was gratifying to know that the items that they had transported would change people's lives.
Arriving in Port au Prince was eye opening. Never had they seen so much destruction or poverty. They knew that they could not leave the country without trying to do something more to help. This website is a list of some of the ideas that they have had to help those in need.
